Important: Pocket RCT is legacy software which is discontinued and has not been sold or upgraded for more than 7 years. Free tech support is still available on this page only.

There will be no further updates for Pocket RCT since the platform is essentially dead and the hardware is aging and obsolete due to market forces beyond our control. We recommend moving to our newer CyberTuner for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch as soon as possible. If you are starting to have hardware issues, that's the perfect time to move up to "iRCT". Please see Question 1 below.

1. What is the future for Pocket RCT?

If you are concerned about the long term, we recommend moving to our new iRCT, or CyberTuner for Apple iOS. iRCT runs on iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. If you need a larger screen, iPads have 7" to 13" screens and are a great choice. If you don't need a phone and/or are on a budget, an iPod touch costs about $150 with no contract. We don't expect any further development or new features for Pocket RCT, all current and future development is concentrated on the Apple iOS platform. HP and Dell stopped making/supporting Windows Mobile devices many years ago. Good parts and batteries for HP iPAQs and Dell Axims are almost impossible to find as Windows Mobile is now an orphan, obsolete platform.

3. What are the system & hardware requirements for Pocket RCT?

Windows Mobile
Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system versions 5, or 6 on HP iPaq or Dell Axim Pocket PC.
Requires a 400 mhz or faster processor, touch screen, microphone and a CF/SD memory card slot to match your SentinelKey.

NOT SUPPORTED BY POCKET RCT: Any HTC product, HP iPAQ 200 series, any Palm Treo, any Windows Mobile phone, Windows Phone, any Android phone or Apple iPhone, any Palm product.

If you are needting to move to a newer/different Windows Mobile device we recommend you first consider our new "iRCT" or RCT for Apple iPhone, iPod or iPad. Apple iOS devices start at about $129 USD for an iPod touch 6 refurbished from Apple. Contact us for a special offer only for Pocket RCT users.

5. How can I move Pocket RCT from my old machine to a new one?

We no longer support moving Pocket RCT to new/different hardware. If your hardware breaks, is lost or is otherwise non-functional, the best option is to upgrade to CyberTuner for iPhone/iPad.

5. What do I do with Pocket RCT if I'm having my Pocket PC device repaired?

If you're having a new battery, case or screen installed, or similar repair, there's nothing special to do. However in that case you should instruct the repair company that they MUST NOT replace the motherboard. Replacing the motherboard will alter the machine's serial number and Pocket RCT will no longer function. There is no need to deactivate Pocket RCT.

6. How do I obtain a copy of the latest Pocket RCT version v4.6.0f1?

We no longer provide downloads for Pocket RCT software.

7. Pocket RCT is showing a deactivation code. What happened?

The user must have requested and approved deactivation of Pocket RCT - there are multiple warning messages to confirm deactivation. It is not possible for the Pocket RCT software to deactivate itself. It will be more cost effective to upgrade to iRCT rather than to invest in a dead platform.

8. How do I install the RCT Ten Styles Tuning Library on my Pocket PC?

Normally the "RCT Ten Styles Library" SD card is the first SD card you should install, see the Pocket RCT 4.5x Getting Started Manual for installation instructions.

However, if the Ten Styles Library is not installed for some reason, it's easy to fix.

A. Insert the RCT Ten Styles Library SD card in the machine. (you will need the original SD card).

B. Tap Start Menu/Programs/File Explorer (or Start Menu/File Explorer). In the menu at upper left corner (just below "File Explorer", may say "My Documents")

C. Tap the menu and select My Device/ Storage (or CF or SD) Card/2577. Tap on "Autorun". Installation should occur. If a window appears informing you that a previous version is already installed, tap OK.

If the above does not work, you can install the library manually by tapping either file "RCT Ten Styles...". One file will work, the other won't. After installing the library start Pocket RCT, choose File menu, Open file.

9. How do I create a Historical Temperament tuning?

A. Make sure you are in Chameleon's Advanced mode with Name and Save tunings turned ON. Tap the Advanced button in File menu, check the box next to Name and Save...

B. Calculate a tuning in Chamleon and name it. The tuning will be initially calculated in Equal Temperament and CyberEar will appear.

C. Tap the File menu, View Tunings, tap-and-hold on the a Tuning Record's header and select Hist Temp or select an item (tap on its header) and choose Hist Temp under the Tools menu.

D. Select the Historical Temperament of your choice and tap the "Create" button. The first 57 Historical Temperaments used in Pocket RCT are taken from Owen Jorgenson's tome "Tuning".

"Type" helps you identify the different temperaments: W=Well, R=Regular Meantone, M=Modern Meantone, Q=Quasi Equal, P=Pythagorean. Type numbers are Pocket RCT's way to help you identify the various temperaments within a Type. After Creating a Historical Temperament tuning record, its Type (eg., W12) will be automatically written into the end of its header, replacing "Ch3".

User Temperaments are very similar. Please see page 17 in the Pocket RCT v4.5x Getting Started Manual for further instructions.

Interested in non-Equal temperaments? Our newer CyberTuner for iOS includes 114 temperaments including 57 Jorgensen and 57 Di Veroli temperaments (under exclusive license from Di Veroli). Converting temperaments with iRCT is dramaticaly improved since each iRCT tuning record knows it's temperament can can be converted back to Equal Temperament or converted directly to any other temperament.
